47 Meters Down: Uncaged is a 2019 survival horror film directed by Johannes Roberts.
It is a sequel of 47 Metres Down, it was released on August 16, 2019 and it stars Sophie Nélisse, Corinne Foxx, Brianne Tju and Sistine Stallone.
Plot[]
In the south of Mexico, Yucatan, a lot of American female teenagers go to the Modine International School. There one day, while others intend to observe the ocean, four teen girls, Mia, Sasha, Alexa and Nicole, decide to enjoy time together and dive together into a ruined underwater Mayan city nearby that has been only recently discovered with the purpose of admiring it.
Two of them, Mia, who is being mobbed, and Sasha, who is popular, are stepsisters who don't get along very well and who are also frustrated, because they have only recently come to this place because of their parents and their father's wish, who is a diving expert and Sasha's stepfather, to investigate this underwater city and secure it with the help of subordinates so that archeologists can investigate it later in order to find out more about it.
However, when they scuba dive there, they quickly find themselves in a watery hell as their adventure turns to horror when they learn they are not alone in the submerged caves. They discover, as they swim deeper into the claustrophobic labyrinth of caves that it has White Sharks, the deadliest shark species in the ocean, and must therefore do everything to save themselves from them.
This fight becomes a fight for their own, naked survival and they must use all their abilities and ressources for that, In this fight, despite of their efforts, Alexa and Nicole die. Two workers, Ben and Carl, and their boss Grant, who is also the father of Mia and Sasha, and who was also working there in order to secure the city in that moment also end up being killed. Additionally, an effort to get them out of there through a hole to the surface fails.
It turns out that the white sharks were in the cave until Grant and the others opened it since they appeared blind. At the end only Mia and Sasha manage to get out of the underwater cave by going through a hole that their father only recently knew existed and told to them before he died, where they also have to give up their diving equipment, when they no longer have oxygen.
However, when they reach the ocean they can´t get out of it because of the cliffs at the coast who are everywhere. Additionally, the boat, which the others were using in order to observe white sharks and which was also nearby, has been using bait in order to attract normal sharks to their position in order to admire them underwater not possibly knowing what is going on while admiring them underwater.
Still, they manage to approach it and show through their presence underwater, what is going on and then swim towards the boat in order to be rescued by the crew, but then Sasha nearly gets devoured by one of the sharks, which forces Mia, who was at that time already safe on the boat and who already had diving experience before thanks to her father, to return to the water and, in a heroic and very dangerous action, manages to save her by jumping into the ocean and firing and hitting this shark with a gun with a flare underwater, which forces the shark to release Sasha. While they return after that another shark tries to devour Mia and nearly succeeds, but she is able to save herself by using a shark tooth she had and that her father had given to her in order to wound one of its eyes and in this way get free of it.
After that they, both wounded, go aboard the boat in the nick of time, while the people on the boat have to watch in shock regarding all the unexpected events. There they are then being treated by the crew of the boat regarding the wounds while both of them have also in the meantime come real close because of the horrible experience, while Catherine, the ringleader of Mia's mobbers and who is also on the boat, looks at her in shock, fear and respect because of what she did.

In September 2017, because of the success of the first movie, the production studio The Fyzz Facility had decided and announced to work on a sequel to 47 Meters Down, titled 48 Meters Down. Johannes Roberts returned as director, and again co-wrote the script with Ernest Riera. James Harris and Mark Lane produced the film, as they did the first, and were joined by Robert Jones.
By December 2018 it was decided to retitle the movie 47 Meters Down: Uncaged and, after receiving its budget of $12,000,000, the filming began.
Filming[]
Principal photography for the film took place in the Dominican Republic, Pinewood Studios, Dominican Republic, The Underwater Studio in Basildon and Pinewood Studios, UK, on December 2018 and ended in February 2019.

As of September 15, 2019, 47 Meters Down has grossed $22.3 million in the United States and Canada, and $25.3 million in other territories, for a worldwide total of $47.6 million, making it a box office success.
In the United States and Canada, the film was released alongside Blinded by the Light, Where'd You Go, Bernadette and Good Boys, and was projected to gross $11–14 million from 2,853 theaters in its opening weekend. It made $3.2 million on its first day, including $516,000 from Thursday night previews. The film went on to debut to $8.4 million, down from the original's $11.2 million, and finishing sixth. The film dropped 54% in its second weekend to $3.9 million, finishing 11th.
Critical response[]
On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds an approval rating of 50% based on 60 reviews, with an average rating of 4.74/10. The website's critical consensus reads, "47 Meters Down: Uncaged may not be as ruthlessly efficient as its finned villains, but fans of shark peril thrillers should find it just chummy enough." On Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, the film has a score of 44 out of 100, based on 16 critics, indicating "mixed or average reviews." Audiences polled by CinemaScore gave the film an average grade of "C+" on an A+ to F scale, while those at PostTrak gave it an average 2.5 out of 5 stars and a 52% "definite recommend."
