The Blumhouse Trilogy refers to the Halloween trilogy produced by Blumhouse released between 2018 and 2022. It consists of the original Halloween (1978) directed by John Carpenter and the Blumhouse trilogy directed by David Gordon Green, Halloween (2018), Halloween Kills (2021) and the forthcoming concluding chapter, Halloween Ends (2022).
The trilogy was first established with the film, Halloween (2018), which shared the same title as the original film (as did its 2007 remake). The 2018 film is a direct sequel to the original, ignoring all sequels including Halloween II (1981), thus creating this timeline that only branches out from Halloween (1978). It was also notably co-produced by original director, John Carpenter.
As a direct sequel to the original film, this notably alters Laurie Strode's history. In this version of the story, Laurie is a victim of an attack by a complete, unrelated stranger named Michael Myers, an escaped mental patient. He killed four people on Halloween, 1978, exactly 15 years after killing his sister, Judithin 1963.
The 2018 film was extended into a trilogy, which includes its sequel, Halloween Kills, where Kyle Richards and Nancy Stephens reprised their roles from the original, as Lindsey Wallace and Marion Chambers respectively. Similar to the original Halloween II, it is set on the same night as the 2018 film. The third and final chapter of the Blumhouse trilogy, Halloween Ends (2022), is both set and due for release 4 years later after the 2018 sequel.
Notes[]
- Tied with H20 Timeline for the most appearances by Jamie Lee Curtis (four), though Laurie has more screentime overall in this timeline.
- The Blumhouse trilogy concludes Jamie Lee Curtis' participation in the Halloween franchise, hence it is likely the Final Timeline.
- Inspired by John Carpenter's dislike for the family relation plot developed in Halloween II (1981). He is co-producer of the 2018 sequel, but does not return as producer for Kills or Ends.
- It has greater socio-political elements incorporated into the films, including themes of addiction and trauma (beginning with 2018 Halloween), toxic mob mentalities and riots in townspeople (Kills), as well as the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic (Ends).
- With every new timeline, Laurie has a different child, which is the easiest way to distinguish between the timelines. In the Original/Thorn Timeline, it is Jamie Lloyd, in the revised H20 Timeline, it is John Tate, and in the Final/Blumhouse Timeline, it is Karen Nelson. All three children are born between 1980 and 1981.
- Coincidentally, both of Laurie's daughters wound up being killed by Michael Myers, while her son survives, though he only has one filmic appearance in the franchise, whereas Karen has two, and Jamie has three.
- Previously known as the 2018 Timeline. Originally, all three films were going to be set on Halloween night, and end on November 1, 2018. This was changed during the pandemic.
