Carmen Ejogo is an English actress and singer. She is known in the horror community for her role as Eva Sanchez in the 2014 film The Purge: Anarchy.

Early Life

Carmen was born and raised in London, England, by her parents, Charles and Elizabeth Ejogo née Douglas. She recalls from her childhood that her mother was very much a "hippie." She attended the Oratory Primary Roman Catholic Primary School in Chelsea until 1984.

Career

Carmen Ejogo has led a productive career in both the film and music industries.

Acting

Ejogo's acting career began on British television in the 1990s. Her first role was to present the children's series Saturday Disney. Afterwards, she began to audition for roles in the United States. She has appeared in several prominent films including What's the Worst That Could Happen and Love's Labour's Lost. She also started her own show entitled The Carmen Ejogo Video Show on BSB's Power Station.

During the 2010's, Ejogo starred as Sally Hemmings in the television drama Sally Hemmings: An American Scandal. She also starred in the 2012 remake of the cult film Sparkle as Sister Anderson. Ejogo was seen by many critics as the breakout star of the remake. In 2014, Ejogo starred as Eva Sanchez in her first horror film role in The Purge: Anarchy.

Music

Carmen Ejogo is also a vocalist. In the 1990s, she wrote and sang lead vocals in the song "Candles" by English artist DJ Alex Reece. She later appeared in the music video for the song, being credited as simply "Carmen."

Ejogo also sang for some of tracks from the cult remake of Sparkle. She sang as a soloist for the song "Yes I Do" and as a co-lead with Jordin Sparks and Tika Sumpter for "Jump," "Hooked On Your Love," and "Something He Can Feel."
