Ivan Simon Cary Elwes (born October 26, 1962), known professionally as Cary Elwes, is an English actor and voice actor. He has appeared in several horror films over the years.

Biography

Elwes first genre film (as well as his fourth mainstream film) was in the 1985 romantic-horror project The Bride, itself a quasi-sequel to James Whale's 1935 classic The Bride of Frankenstein. Elwes played a military officer named

Captain Josef Schoden, who courted the main character Eva (played by Jennifer Beals), not realizing that she was in fact a product of one scientist's obsession. He later played the role of Lord Arthur Holmwood in Francis Ford Coppola's 1992 adaptation of Bram Stoker's Dracula. In E. Elias Merhige's 2000 alternate history film Shadow of the Vampire, Elwes played the role of Watson. To modern audiences, he is best remembered for playing the role of Doctor Lawrence Gordon in James Wan's 2004 "torture-porn" hit Saw. He then went on to star in the 2009 Andrew Shortell film Psych 9. In August 2005, he filed a lawsuit against his management firm and the producers of Saw. He alleged that he was promised a percentage of the profits and did not receive the full amount as promised. The producers eventually settled out of court. [1]
