Biography[]

Early Life[]

Charles Lee Ray was born on May 1st, 1958, in the sleepy town of Hackensack, New Jersey to Peter and Elizabeth Ray. In contrast to his claims in Seed of Chucky that killing has been in his family for "generations", as far as shown, Charles had come from a normal and well-meaning family with two loving parents and grew up in a good home, but unknown to both of his parents Chales suffered from a severe case of sadistic and homicidal urges.

When Charles was a child, after he returned home from trick-or-treating during Halloween, he checked all his candy until he decided to pick up an apple that he received and noticed a razor blade stuck inside of it. He bites into it regardless, smiling after the razor blade cut into his mouth causing it to bleed. During his seventh birthday party, Charles used a mallet to knock the piñata to the ground, but continued to aggressively smash it even after it had fallen. He then overheard the news that the Hackensack Slasher, a serial killer, was on the loose on the radio, and delighted in plunging a knife into his birthday cake. Later that night, Charles woke up from his sleep to discover that the Hackensack Slasher had broken into his house and was stabbing his father to death. His mother quickly took him to the main room and the two hide in a closet, but Charles managed to grab his pocketknife before they hide. The Hackensack Slasher soon found their hiding place, but when he opened the closet, he found that Charles had already stabbed his mother to death, claiming to have "helped". Impressed by the boy's actions, the Hackensack Slasher gave him advice that he should always cover his tracks and wiped the blood off his pocketknife before handing it back to him. After his parents' deaths, Charles was placed in the Burlington County Home for Wayward Boys in South Jersey and began seeing a therapist named Amanda Mixter. She was impressed by his pure and glorious violence and decided to nurture his murderous qualities by stamping out the strain of innocence and naivety within him, as she could see that Charles still had some good inside, but Dr. Mixter decided to end with that out of "boredom". During one of their sessions in 1965, Dr. Mixter asked him if he planned on killing his mother or if it was a spontaneous decision. In another session in 1972, Mixter asked which method of killing is his favorite. He confirmed that he liked both planned and spontaneous killings, but spontaneous killings are the most fun. The two also spend time dancing together. Charles was known for playing with the smaller children and attempted to mold three boys into following his killer footsteps, teaching them swear words and reading them fairy tales twisted to revolve around murder, while also instructing them into not telling Miss Janey that he was the one teaching them all those things. One day while running through the house looking for Miss Janey, the building's janitor became angry with him for messing up his clean floor with dirty sneakers. Charles sincerely apologized, but the jerkish janitor proceeded to wet his only pair of shoes with his filthy mop to spite him. This displeased Charles, who got back at the janitor by murdering him with his pocketknife and dumped his body in the forest. A few days later, Charles took his group of three boys on a Peter Pan-esque adventure to get Captain Hook. He led them through the forest and to the fresh corpse of the janitor. Charles claimed that the janitor was Captain Hook, as he had cut off the janitor's hand and shoved a hook into the bloody stump. Two of the boys run away screaming, but one stayed with Charles, a boy named Eddie Caputo. Impressed, Charles said that Eddie "had guts" just like the Hackensack Slasher had told him. That night, the police arrived at the Burlington Home to investigate the janitor's death. Before leaving and going on the run, Charles said goodbye to Eddie and gifted him the janitor's severed hand. He also loses with Dr. Mixter after he is forced to flee the orphanage. As Charles grew into a young adult, he continued killing people everywhere he went. In 1984, Charles was involved with the death of nine people and injuries of another of five In 1986, Charles hung out at a gentlemen's nightclub and approached a blonde woman named Delilah, and they then picked up another red-headed woman before leaving to the Hackensack Hotel. He watched the two women kiss on the bed before grabbing the red-headed woman by the neck and holding a knife to her head. Smiling, she told him to do it, but he hesitated and instead stabbed Delilah in the stomach. He handed the knife to the other woman, allowing her to finish the job and kill Delilah. Exhilarated by the kill, they jumped on the bed and started making out. She told him her name was Tiffany Valentine and he told her his name was Charles, she remarked that he should go by "Chucky" and he, in turn, suggested she should be blonde. In 1987, Now going as Chucky, both he and Tiffany left Hackensack after killing a man that was attempting to sell a car which they proceeded to drive out of town with. In 1988 Chucky along with Tiffany had relocated to Chicago, Illinois. During his time in there he had a double life as a serial killer and a regular civilian. He studied Voodoo under the guidance of a practitioner named John Aelsop Bishop (also once known as "Doctor Death") in attempt to learn how to cheat death. Unbeknownst to John, Chucky perverted those teachings, which were intended to be used for good, to commit a series of ritual murders becoming known as the Lakeshore Strangler. His known accomplices that helped him carry out his misdeeds were Eddie Caputo and Tiffany Valentine. he murdered a woman named Vivian Van Pelt and stole her $6,000 ring for unknown reasons. He also killed Tiffany's mother. At some later point at a neighborhood barbeque, he met and befriended Daniel Pierce and was introduced to his family: his wife Sarah (who was pregnant with Nica at the time) and his daughter Barbara. Chucky fell secretly in love with her and wanted the two of them to be "family". At some point later, one night, Chucky found Daniel walking home and offered him a ride home. At some point he managed to subdue and drown him. He later attended his funeral along with Sarah's family. He later kidnapped Sarah and held her in the basement of a building (possibly the same apartment building located at 730 Stony Island Avenue on the south side of Chicago). He revealed his true motives to her and everything he did to her family (now believing himself to be "part" of the family). According to state media, Chucky was the chief suspect in the kidnapping on Friday and also shot a police officer who tried to stop and question him over the weekend. At the same time tensions rose between both Chucky and Tiffany when she found out Chucky was killing people without her. Tiffany had enough of Chucky's egotism made an anonymous call to the police, telling them the whereabouts of the Lakeshore Strangler. The police showed up to the building and found where Chucky was holding Sarah and angrily believing she had turned him in, feeling betrayed and rejected, in responds Chucky stabbed Sarah in the stomach with a voodoo knife (the same one he used later as a doll). This caused Nica's paraplegia (paralysis of the legs) later after she was born. Chucky is then being chased by the police Tiffany had called earlier. Among the officers involved in the chase is detective Mike Norris. He tries his hand at shooting Norris but misses, and he is shot in the foot by him. He sees his partner and childhood friend Eddie, in the van up ahead and limps towards his direction, but Norris calls his partner, Jack Santos, to chase the van and Chucky is abandoned by Eddie. Chucky is then forced to hide behind a wall, Missing Norris with his gun again, he is told to give up and surrender. Cornered and unable to go anywhere, Chucky takes cover inside a toy store and is soon fatally shot by Norris in the chest. Before dying, Chucky removes his trench coat, swears vengeance on Norris and Eddie, and continues to hide from him. He begins to lose his balance and leans forward on boxes of "Good Guy" dolls, knocking them down, and uses a voodoo ritual to transfer his soul into one of the dolls. The store is then struck by lightning and it burns to the ground. Norris presumes that Charles Lee Ray died in the explosion. From there the Child's Play film series unfolds. Grace Poole mentioned in the second film that Ray murdered a total of one dozen people during his killing spree in Chicago (despite only having three confirmed victims and only one is actually seen on camera). In Cult of Chucky, Nica mentioned she read about Chucky having murdered 22 people before he was killed by the police
