David Arquette (born September 8, 1971) is an American actor, film director, producer, screenwriter, wrestler, and fashion designer. He played Dewey Riley in the Scream franchise.
Arquette began his career in the 1990s and quickly gained attention through comedic roles (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), but his involvement in horror films was a turning point. The first installment of Scream came out in 1996 and starred Wes Craven. The movie became a landmark image for the horror genre, combining elements of thriller and black comedy. The character of Dewey, played by Arquette, became a favorite among fans and returned in subsequent films in the series. His character, who combines elements of humor and naiveté, brought a special dynamic to the films. In 2006, Arquette directed The Tripper, which was his directorial debut (he also made a cameo).
Although Arquette is known for his roles in comedy films, his involvement in Scream and many other horror projects has solidified his status in the world of horror films, and he continues to remain active in the field, bringing his unique style and charisma to each role. He has starred in many indie horror films such as High Voltage, 12 Hour Shift, and Ghosts of the Ozarks. He also lent his voice and likeness in the interactive horror game The Quarry.
