― Donna's motivation |
Donna Chang is a supporting character and murder victim in the 2002 slasher film Halloween Resurrection. Donna is a participant in exploring the abandoned Myers household for an internet reality show for Dangertainment. She is portrayed by American actress Daisy McCrackin.
Biography[]
Donna is a red-headed, 19 year-old student at Haddonfield University. She is a Critical Studies major and acquaintance of Sara Moyer and Jen Danzig. Donna is one of the six winners chosen to explore Michael Myers' childhood home for Dangertainment, a reality show that is livestreamed. She decides to sign up because she's interested in Michael Myers from a psychological perspective.
During the event, she explores the house with Jim Morgan. At first she's not interested in him, but as the evening goes on her attraction grows and they eventually have sex in a secret room they discover together. After realizing the night has been staged by Dangertainment, she is attacked and killed by Michael Myers in the hidden sewers beneath the house. She's the third victim of the Halloween night massacre of 2001.
Halloween 2001[]
Donna is introduced during the first meeting for Dangertainment's internet reality show. Freddie Harris and Nora Winston have gathered all six contestants for interviews and information. Donna attempts to portray herself as intellectual who is interested in how "Michael Myers embodies the politics of violence embedded in pop mythology."
On Halloween, Donna joins Sara and Jen as they shop for the outfits they're going to wear that night. Sara worries that her top is too revealing, but Jen is adamant on wearing anything that will lead to more viewership.
Donna joins the rest of the gang back at Dangertainment headquarters where Freddie shows everyone how to operate the camera they'll be using that evening in the Myers house.
Late in the afternoon, everyone arrives at the Myers house. Along with the other contestants, Donna assembles her recording equipment and enters the house. At first they're unsure of what to do, but Rudy and Jen seem interested in creating an entertaining night for the audience, while Sara wants to search for clues within the house as to why Michael Myers became a psychotic killer. Jim is the least interested of everyone in exploring and instead decides to hit on Donna. She pretends to be offended by his advances, but is actually deeply attracted to him.
As the sun sets, the six contestants split up into pairs. Donna is paired with Jim, and they head into the basement. Donna tells Jim her theory on what drives Michael Myers to kill, while Jim is only interested in hooking up with her.
While exploring, Donna discovers a circular door in the floor. Jim accidentally bumps into her and Donna finally gives in and attempts to kiss him. He stops her, remembering something from earlier. He leaves her alone in the basement. When he returns, he has a key that will open the door. Donna is impressed and they climb down the ladder together.
The ladder leads to a small chamber with chains on the walls and rag dolls on the floor. Donna and Jim wonder if Michael was ever kept down there as punishment. Donna speculates that there won't be any cameras down there and takes the opportunity to make her move. She removes both of their cameras and then kisses Jim. He enthusiastically kisses her back and pushes her up against the wall. She removes her top and then her bra and he eases her down to the ground where they have sex. While they're having sex, the wall in the chamber crumbles and showers them in rubble and skeletons. Donna screams and Jim desperately tries to throw off all the bones and other human remains. Donna is extremely distraught at finding the remains of all of Michael Myers' victims, until Jim notifies her that they're not real. He shows her a label on one of the arms that says it was made in Taiwan.
Jim climbs the ladder, intent on finding Freddie and demanding answers. Realizing that everything in the house is fake and that she just showed her breasts to the entire online audience, an embarrassed Donna puts her clothes back on and reassembles her camera. Before following Jim, she spots a crack in an outer wall. She calls out for Jim, but her curiosity gets the better of her and she presses on without him.
She squeezes through the opening and finds herself in a sewer. She walks along the sewer and discovers a bed, some newspaper clippings, and dead rats. She's convinced everything is a prop that Freddie planted, but after she pokes the rat and it discovers its real, she screams and the lights are suddenly shut off. She calls out for Jim, certain that he's teasing her, but she spots Michael Myers with her flashlight and runs away screaming.
An escape from the sewer is blocked by a rusted gate, and Donna attempts to climb through. Before she can pass through it, Michael catches up and grabs her. Donna is completely overpowered by the killer and any attempt she makes to break free is easily blocked.
She screams and pushes back, but Michael pushes harder. She's eventually pushed up against a broken spike and it slowly pierces her back. Donna moans in agony before Michael gives her one last strong shove. The spike impales Donna completely, and it exits through her chest just below her breasts, and she manages one last scream before she goes limp and dies.
Donna's death isn't believed at first by anyone watching online. The other contestants are aware of her death either. It isn't until Sara begins to witness more and more deaths that everyone starts to believe that the real Michael Myers has returned to kill again. While she's running from Michael Myers, Sara finds herself in the tunnels underneath the house and discovers Donna's dead body. Sara is horrified by the sight of another dead friend.
At the end of the film, the house burns down with Michael Myers apparently dying in the blaze. It's implied that Donna's body - along with all the other victims - are destroyed in the fire as Michael Myers' body is the only one found.
Trivia[]
- Originally, Donna was to be introduced with a topless scene in the shower, as an homage to Psycho. This scene was cut from the final film.
- In the workprint version, Donna is killed while running away from Michael Myers. She doesn't see the metal spike protruding from the gate and she's impaled through the stomach.
