Edward Carnby is the main character in the Alone in the Dark franchise, appearing in two movies and most of the video games, apart from Jack in the Dark, and Alone in the Dark: Illumination. The latter game featured a relative of Carnby's, however.

Carnby is a private eye, who can use swords, guns, and even his fighting skills to defend himself. In the third game, he briefly becomes a puma, before being restored. At one point in the game he is also shrunk as well.
Related character[]
The Edward Carnby who stars in Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare isn't the same person from the retro games. Although the Carnby in the 2008 reboot game is supposedly the same person from the 1920s, who is meant to have entered the present day period, somehow.
