"One shot, one kill. Nothing more, nothing less."
Foley

Foley is a minor character in the third installment of the Python series, Boa vs. Python. He was played by Atanas Srebrev.

Character Development

Before 2004

Not much is known about Foley before the events of the movie in 2004.

He was a sniper in the military, where he gained the reputation of being the "greatest sniper". What he did to earn this accolade is unknown. He presumably met casino mogul Broddick during this time and joined his group of (illegal) hunters.

2004

When the monstrous python Broddick purchased from South America breaks out of its containment mid-transfer, Foley is invited with other wealthy individuals to join the game hunt. His first appears at an airfield, pulling up in a red sports car. He acknowledges Broddick's girlfriend, Eve, with a somewhat flirtatious nod. After the other hunters arrive, the group board Broddick's private jet.

As Broddick proceeds to give a briefing before the hunt, Foley continues to flirt with Eve in front of of her boyfriend. The animosity between Broddick and Foley is clear when the latter makes a toast to the hunt, only to be met with a frosty look from Broddick.

After landing, Foley is teamed with Eve and Broddick's friend, Tex. As they venture into the forest, Tex marvels at Foley's only having one weapon and no more than a couple of bullets. Foley then explains that he had never needed more than one bullet for a target.

When father-and-son duo James and Mr Danner think they've got their eyes on the python, both teams are on high alert. Led by Eve, Foley and Tex follow behind Broddick's team. Foley begins to show his impatience and bitterness at the inequity of Broddick having both Eve and a jet. He takes things into his own hands and darts forward, Tex following behind. Too fast for the cowboy, Tex gets lost and falls prey to the python.

Broddick comes upon Foley in a clearing, kneeling and clutching Tex's rifle which was discarded among the foliage. He gives Foley a dressing down and warns him to stay away from Eve. Taking this very unkindly, Foley presses up against Broddick in a display of masculinity. The confrontation is interrupted by James and Mr Danner; what they thought was the python turned out to be a mere rabbit.

The hunters track the python to an underground water treatment facility, at which they split into two groups. Foley is teamed with James and Mr Danner. To keep him in check, Broddick puts Mr Danner in charge, much to Foley's annoyance.

As the team of three venture deeper into the facility, they hear something in the distance. Expecting it to be the python, the three men ready their rifles, Foley reciting his one-shot-one-kill mantra. When a shadow appears, Foley immediately fires, only to discover that the 'python' was FBI agent Alan Sharpe. Mr Danner and James curse and rush forward. Realising what he's done, Foley draws away backwards.

"Whoops..." —Foley after firing upon Agent Sharpe.

Suddenly, he staggers wildly. Something has bitten down on his legs. He peers down, only to see the python's massive jaws clamped his legs. He looks up and smirks in disbelief as the prospect of being eaten looms. His jerks violently as the python pulls the man to the ground. Foley claws at the ground screaming as the snake pulls him backwards into the darkness. The others look on, frozen. Foley's cries become more desperate as he is pulled across the ground. He looks back for a moment and screams in terror when he sees the python's monstrous body coiled about itself.

The python devours Foley whole, silencing his cries.

Appearance & Personality

Foley is a tall, handsome man. Thanks to his military background, his body is muscular and very fit. Foley wears a grey t-shirt throughout the movie which accentuates his well-defined arms.

His motto is "one shot, one kill", not believing in the waste of ammunition. This implies he rarely misses a target (which may explain his title of "our military's greatest sniper"). For this reason, he travels light, unlike the other hunters. His very vocal declaration about not needing more bullets for a target highlights his very obvious arrogance (e.g. driving flashy sports cars). This trait of his is also fully on display when he openly flirts with Eve, Broddick's girlfriend. This flaw ultimately led to his death.

Foley is both impulsive and impatient, as seen when he readily abandons his team on the hunt. This decision led to his teammate Tex falling prey to the python.

Trivia

  • Across the several drafts of the script for Boa vs. Python, writers Chase Parker and Sam Wells envisaged different deaths for Foley, each resulting from his folly and arrogance.
    • Foley's death in the fourth draft was the version filmed by director David Flores.
  • Foley is played by Bulgarian actor Atanas Srebrev.
