The plot of the 2017 film Ghost House follows an American couple, Jim and Julie, on vacation in Thailand. Julie is fascinated by the local "ghost houses," small shrines built to appease and house spirits, preventing them from disturbing the living.
During a night out, the couple meets two British travelers who, with a malicious intent, trick Julie into taking an idol from a ghost house in a secluded cemetery. Unbeknownst to Julie, her scarf had been tied to the idol, effectively cursing her.
After this act, Julie becomes haunted by a malevolent and vengeful spirit. The spirit, a scorned woman who died in a fire, seeks to consume Julie's soul within a few days. Jim desperately tries to find a way to save her, leading them to seek help from a local guide and a shaman. They learn that the only way to save Julie is to transfer the curse to someone else, forcing Jim to make a difficult choice between his fiancée's life and the life of another person. The film culminates in a frantic race against time and a dangerous ritual to confront and banish the spirit.
