I Am Frankelda (formerly Frankelda and the Prince of the Spooks) will be a film based on Frankelda's Book of Spooks.
The project was announced on 8 September 2022 during the ‘Truth and Fiction’ conference at the Pixelatl Festival; a teaser, concept art and some puppets were shown, but its format was not revealed.
On 25 April 2023, the Ambriz brothers revealed through their social networks that it would be a film. Some sequences and behind-the-scenes footage will be shown during a presentation as a WIP selection at the Annecy Festival of the same year. The film is currently finished.
The film premiered at the Guadalajara International Film Festival on June 6th, 2025 and is currently set for a Fall 2025 theatrical release in Mexico.
Summary[]
Frankelda, a young Mexican woman, a frustrated writer of the 19th century, travels in the form of a ghost to a realm of her own invention inhabited by scares, which are monstrous characters created by her in her horror stories. Her guide is Herneval, the Prince of Spooks, who takes her along to help him bridge the balance between the Realm of Fiction and the Realm of Existence, using her talent as a writer. Herneval, the Prince of Spooks, is a ghost who has been a ghost for many years.
