"King of Thorn" is a science fiction survival thriller that revolves around a global pandemic known as the Medusa Virus. This mysterious and highly contagious illness causes its victims to gradually turn to stone, with a 100% fatality rate.
In a desperate attempt to find a cure and preserve humanity, a global biotech company called Venus Gate selects 160 individuals from around the world who are infected with the Medusa Virus. These chosen few are put into cryogenic sleep within a specialized facility located in an ancient castle, with the hope that a cure will be found while they are in suspended animation.
The story primarily follows Kasumi Ishiki, a Japanese teenage girl who is chosen for the program, leaving behind her twin sister, Shizuku, who is also infected but not selected. When Kasumi and a handful of other survivors abruptly awaken from their cold sleep, they find the facility in ruins, overgrown with monstrous thorny vines, and infested with terrifying, carnivorous creatures.
The plot then becomes a tense survival drama as Kasumi and the other survivors – including a British man named Marco, a young boy named Tim, and various other characters with diverse backgrounds – must navigate the dangerous, monster-filled castle to find a way out and understand what has happened to the world outside.
As they fight for their lives, they uncover a much deeper mystery surrounding the Medusa Virus, the true intentions of Venus Gate, and the nature of the monstrous threats they face. The film delves into themes of fear, survival, and the blurred lines between reality and imagination, ultimately revealing a shocking truth about the Medusa Virus and its connection to the characters' own minds and desires.
