Lloyd the Bartender, or more simply known as Lloyd, is a minor antagonist and character in the 1980 film The Shining. He was portrayed by Joe Turkel and Henry Thomas.
Bio[]
Lloyd was a bartender in the Overlook Hotel. During a long winter in the hotel long ago, Lloyd and many others died. They were all condemned to haunt the halls of the Overlook.
He is first seen after Jack Torrance gets into a fight with his wife. He wanders off into the Ballroom and takes a seat at the bar. He puts his head on the table and wishes for a glass of whiskey. Suddenly, Lloyd appears. He asks Jack what he wants to drink. He asks for a bourbon, and Lloyd obliges. Jack vents to Lloyd about his family problems. Suddenly, Wendy comes looking for Jack and Lloyd disappears.
The next time Lloyd is seen is when Jack once again stumbles into the ballroom. However, the ballroom was full of guests. Jack says to Lloyd that it is a busy night, and Lloyd agrees. Jack asks Lloyd for a drink, and he is obliged. Lloyd is last seen serving drinks to the occupants.
In the sequel Doctor Sleep, Jack's spirit has become the new Lloyd who greets older Danny at the bar and is shown to act more like Jack than the previous Lloyd of the Overlook Hotel.
Abilities[]
Lloyd is an expert bartender and a great conversationalist. He may have supernatural ghost abilities, but they are not shown.
