Mark N Tompkins is Canadian lead and standby painter who worked on several horror titles in the late 1990's and the early 2000's. Being a skilled matte and background painter, Mark certainly knew how to bring magic onto the movie sets, making several backgrounds highly realistic. He is known for his work in 'Lake Placid', 'Final Destination', 'Freddy vs. Jason' and 'Ther13en Ghosts'.[1]
Early Life[]
Mark Tompkins was born on January 16th, 1975 in Canada, where he spent most of his childhood. As the smallest of three children, he was highly temperamental, but showed affinity towards art. His parents guided him to enroll at the Capilano University in Vancouver, specializing in painting. At the end of his studies, he moved to USA, where he was hired to work in a few theater plays as a painter and set designer. The next year, he got the opportunity to work with Steve Miner, the director of Lake Placid.[2]
Career[]
Following the initial success of the movie Lake Placid, Mark N. Tompkins was hired to work on several similar horror titles in Hollywood in only a few years. In the early 2000's, he got to work on many Sci-Fi titles and acquaint himself with the jet-set of the entire industry. Mark has worked with film directors like Neill Blomkamp and actors like Will Smith, Al Pacino and John Cusack.[3]
Following his "silver-screen" career, Mark also tried working in the TV show industry. He was involved in the 2006 series 'Chuck'.[4]
