Biography[]
Mr. Slausen is the main antagonist of the 1979 horror film Tourist Trap. He owns Slausen's Lost Oasis which is a roadside attraction filled with mannequins. Previously a functional business, the attraction has fallen into disrepair. Slausen's backstory reveals that he discovered an affair between his wife and his brother, after which he killed both. This event led to the development of dissociative identity disorder, causing him to adopt the persona of his deceased brother, "Davey."
In the film, Slausen encounters a group of young adults—Molly, Eileen, Woody, and others—whose car breaks down near his property. He presents himself as the owner of the Lost Oasis and invites them to stay while their vehicle is repaired. Slausen mentions his brother Davey, describing him as a separate individual. As the group explores the attraction, they encounter mannequins that move independently, later revealed to be controlled by Slausen’s telekinetic abilities. Slausen, alternating between his own identity and the Davey persona, targets the group, killing several members and turning their bodies into mannequins for his collection.
Molly, one of the survivors, confronts Slausen in the film’s climax. During the confrontation, she uses an axe to kill him, ending his actions. The film concludes with Molly leaving the Lost Oasis.
