Plot[]
In the year 2078, the planet Sirius 6B, once a thriving mining hub, has been reduced to a toxic wasteland becasue of a war between the Alliance and the NEB (New Economic Block).
During this war artificially intelligent self-replicating machines, called Screamers, have been created by the Alliance to kill all enemies and now they have gone rogue, while both sides have abandoned the fighting units there because they are no longer interested in the planet because of the destruction.
Commander Joseph Hendricksson of the Alliance now wants a truce with the enemy in order to give himself and his men a chance for survival. For that purpose he wants to open negotiations with the other side, but during his journey he must find out, that the Screamers have evolved into intelligent beings, even human-like, who claim the planet as their own by destroying both sides and by wiping out all life there.
They succeed in killing both sides and Hendricksson helplessly has to watch it. Because of this and because of him being the only survivor at the end of it, he finally leaves the planet, not knowing he has taken a Screamer with him.
