South America
South America is one of the seven continents on Earth. It is located in the Western Hemisphere, mostly in the Southern Hemisphere, with a relatively small portion located in the Northern Hemisphere. This continent includes twelve sovereign countries and three non-sovereign territories. It is also considered a southern subcontinent of the Americas.
At 17,840,000 square kilometers (6,890,000 square miles) and with over 418.4 million inhabitants, South America is the fourth largest continent by both area and population respectively. 9 of the countries in South America have Spanish as their official language, with Brazil being the only country to have Portuguese as its official language.
