The Astrologer is the main antagonist of the 2024 supernatural horror film Tarot. A gifted fortune teller, this unnamed woman had the power to predict the future using a combination of astrology and tarot. But when she is wronged by a wealthy man, she bounds her spirits to her deck and for hundreds of years, has been killing all those who use them.
She was portrayed by Sunčica Milanović.
History[]
In 1798, The Astrologer was hired by a Hungarian count to predict his future using trot and astrology and was very successful at it too. However, when the count's wife became pregnant, the Astrologer predicted that both his wife and the baby would not survive. He made her re-read the cards and again and again but the same outcome happened every time. When she "refused" to change her reading, he banished the Astrologer and her daughter.
As predicted, the count's wife and baby died during childbirth and in a fit of rage, blaming the Astrologer, he deemed her a witch and sent his inner circle to kill her daughter. An eye for an eye. When the Astrologer returned home and found her daughter hanged, she vowed revenge. Using dark ritual, the Astrologer crafted new tarot cards and bound her to soul to them, killing herself in the process. Now on a supernatural plane of existence, she killed all those involved in her daughter' death one-by-one and her spirit was forever tied to the tarot cards.
Periodically through the next two hundred years, all those who used her tarot cards would find themselves cursed by the Astrologer, as she shapeshifts into the final card used to predict the person's future and kills them.
In 2014, Haley and her friends use the tarot cards, unleashing th Astrologer yet again. She picks them off one by, becoming The High Priestess, The Hermit, The Hanged Man, The Fool, The Magician and both The Devil and Death. Haley seeks out Alma, a woman who survived the attack previously as she did not use the cards on herself, only her friends.
Alma tries to summon the Astrologer to end the curse, but the Astrologer reads her tarot and kills her using the Six of Swords. Haley, realising she may be able to turn the curse back on the Astrologer, uses her skills to read the Astrologer's future. The final card is Death. The Astrologer is defeated and her spirit is burned alongside that of the deck.
