The Gunnison operation was a military operation, which had the purpose to nuke Gunnison, Colorado in order to stop the Xenomorphs from spreading using the last Gunnison survivors as bait for that purpose. It happened in Aliens vs Predator: Requiem.
This operation was executed under the orders of Colonel Stevens, when they realised about the Xenomorphs and the inability of the Nattional Guard to stop them, whose members they sent there were wiped out by them.
The operation was successful and only four Gunnison residents, who realised in time what the military was up to, survived. All the other residents, more than 5,000 in total, either died because of the aliens or because of the operation.
